Customs

Customs are currently closed. I hope to reopen custom work in the near future.

Custom work is an immense privilege. My custom work centers around connecting with clients to create a unique, meaningful, and quality book. I listen to what you want, then transform that vision into the real thing, all the while walking you through every step of the process so it’s as simple for you as can be.

Overview

With experience in book design, book production, and bookbinding, I’m in a unique position to be able to create one-of-a-kind books that will lift up your story.

My process is all about collaboration with you, so that what you get is what you always thought it would be—or more. You can steer the ship if your vision is fully realized, or let me guide the process and make recommendations along the way. I can work with people who are completely new to the book world or with some experience, and I’ll fill in the gaps where needed.

In the end, you’ll get a beautiful, custom book that will hold real value to you and/or your loved ones.

My Experience

Design

I have experience working as a professional book designer and am well prepared to handle all sorts of different designs, layouts, and aesthetics. I use the industry-standard applications for layout, design, and imagery.

Bookbinding

I can create hardcover or softcover books at varying page counts.

My primary method of binding longer books is currently coptic stitch, which is an exposed-spine style of binding (lots of photos of this style of binding are on my shop page). Coptic binding is durable, but does have a very “handmade” feel about it. These books will not look like your typical bookstore purchase, but that’s what makes them all the more unique. Coptic bound books look great even when tucked away on a bookshelf.

I can also create shorter books using pamphlet stitch binding, where all pages and the cover are joined together by a single, short piece of thread.

The style of binding for your book will depend primarily on the length of your book. At this time, I’m currently not offering other binding styles.

How It Works

S T E P 1: Contact me with your ideas. The more details the better, so feel free to go all out describing your dream book. Not exactly sure? That’s just fine; I’m here to help guide the process and we can start with a few questions instead.

S T E P 2: Review my design proposal and quote. Whether you’re doing a blank book or fully designed book with text and imagery, I’ll provide a proposal explaining the book’s design, materials used, associated costs, and anticipated turnaround time. Assuming all looks good, we can begin work.

S T E P 3: Gather and send any materials to be used throughout the process. This could include images, text, special items you want included in the book, etc.

S T E P 4 (only applies to designed, limited edition books): Review my design of the interior and cover. After materials are in hand, I’ll create a design for the book based off your initial ideas and any conversations we’ve had. You’ll review and send me any feedback. Once approved, the full book will be built based around this approved design.

S T E P 5: Sit tight! Once I’ve finished making all books, you’ll receive a note from me with your shipping info. Then it’s only a few days until your special book(s) arrives!
